Position Description:

Given that the Principle Purpose of Churches of Christ in Victoria and Tasmania is: To be a movement of the people of God gathering in and around the central figure of Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, living out his Way in our neighbourhoods, and inviting others to do the same;

And, acknowledging that we could do better at building Communities of Hope and Compassion (that sometimes might look like church as we’ve known it) and developing Leaders to lead them (that sometimes might look like Ministers as we’ve known them);

What follows is a Summary and Position Description for the Safe Places and Professional Standards Coordinator for the Communities functional area within Churches of Christ in Victoria and Tasmania.

Role Summary:

The Role of the Safe Places & Professional Standards Coordinator is to promote a culture of safety within CCVT and its Affiliates with the goal of being a safe place for all people.

Being a Safe Place is both an expression of the Gospel and the Kingdom, as well as fulfilling the increasing expectations of community and government, therefore the role has a best practice focus on a broad and diverse range of areas including administration, complaints resolution, occupational health and safety, and the protection of children and vulnerable people.

The SP&PS role is positioned within the CCVT Communities Team, but also works in conjunction with the CCVT Board, CCVT Executive Team, CCVT staff, CCVT Accredited Ministers, lay leaders, and the wider ecumenical Professional Standards community to develop and resource CCVT and its Affiliates with relevant policies, procedures, training, and resources.

This role requires well developed communication skills, initiative, efficiency, and the capacity to be a team player and a ‘coalition-builder’ with CCVT’s stakeholders.

  • Mission and Values

To understand, support and promote the Principle Purposes of CCCC as it is lived out within the Principle Purpose, Mission and Values of CCVT.

  • Reporting

To report to the CCVT Communities Team Leader in an agreed form, as and when required, giving particular attention to thethemes outlined in the Specific Requirements below.

  • Conduct

To demonstrate the values of CCVT in all interactions with all involved in the performance of this Position Description. As this role will include issues relating to Ministry, and as an Endorsed Minister (or a person seeking Endorsement) the successful candidate will sign, and maintain in practice, the CCVT Code of Ethics for People in Ministry.

  • Confidentiality

To maintain confidentiality; and to not divulge any unauthorised information about CCVT’s operations or any Leader, Minister, or Affiliate.

  • Continuous Improvement

To facilitate the improvement of the quality of relationships and communication between CCVT and its Affiliates and Leaders/Ministers and all other entities CCVT relates to and is connected with.

  • Professional Development

To attend relevant programs that improve and enhance leadership skills appropriate to the position.

  • Statutory Obligations

To adhere to all CCVT policies, procedures and practices, and any relevant legislation.

Key Responsibility Areas

Safe Places best practice/continuous development – improvement:

  • Continue the ongoing development and effective implementation of the CCVT Safe Places policy and providing direction towards continuous improvement for and by Affiliates of CCVT.
  • Maintain the Safe Places section of the CCVT website.

Advice and Support to Affiliates:

  • Provide advice to Affiliates and CCVT on all matters related to the CCVT Safe Places Policy and associated suite of polices and resources.
  • Provide specific advice to CCVT staff and Affiliates and on Duty of Care issues.

Training:

  • Develop and maintain an effective Safe Places and Professional Standards training program in consultation with the CCVT EO and Communities Team Leader.

Professional Standards:

  • Point of contact for complaints and allegations related to the Safe Places Policy, complaints about CCVT Inc or its representatives.
  • Point of contact for complaints and allegations related to the CCVT Code of Ethics for Ministers in conjunction withthe Executive Officer.
  • Responsible for overseeing the administration of investigations, communicating with the relevant parties, and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Liaising with CCVT Affiliates on the implementation of professional standards, Safe Places practices, maintaining the Code of Ethics, and training Affiliates and Ministers on related matters.

Standard Criteria

The appointee will have:

  • A sound, working knowledge of the relevant State and Federal legislation as it pertains to CCVT and its Affiliates, including but not limited to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Building Regulations (Essential Services Maintenance), Privacy Act, Child Safe Standards, Children, Youth and Families Act, and related best practice resources.
  • Ability to interpret and explain the CCVT constitution, the Properties Corporation of Churches of Christ Act, the Churches of Christ Tasmania Act, and all related policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and explain the CCVT Safe Places policy, including all relevant legislation, to Affiliates, their leaders, employees, members, and volunteers.
  • Willingness to understand the DNA of Churches of Christ, to intentionally work within the ethos of CCVT, and to engage effectively with the diverse shape, size, and culture of CCVT’s Affiliates.
  • Ability to manage and maintain policy in challenging environments and circumstances.
  • Ability to demonstrate evidence-based decision-making skills and a capacity to work with a solution-focus inresponding to issues and conflicts.
  • A mature, trauma informed approach to communication with those involved in complaints processes.
  • Ability to process sensitive and personal information in a confidential manner.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written, including the capacity to listen deeply to another, including those with differing views.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and deliver ‘best-practice’ training for a broad range of participants.
  • Attention to detail, well organised, strong coordination skills, a team player and a coalition-builder.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in a related field.
  • A satisfactory National Police Record Check and valid Working with Children Check.
