Ministry Team Leader (Minister) Profile

Open Door Community Church is jointly affiliated with the Churches of Christ Vic/Tas and the Uniting Church in Australia. We prayerfully seek a Ministry Team Leader who can provide effective leadership to our community as we seek to enter a new season of growth and community engagement from a missionally oriented perspective.

Accountability

The Minister is accountable to the Church Elders Council for fulfilling the responsibilities according to an agreed position description and annual review process. The minister is expected to maintain their Accreditation and Endorsement and abide by the code of ethics, to work primarily on location and to have an external approved supervisor.

Position

Full time role or Part time (4 Days per week)

The role of the Minister will be:

  • to lead the congregation toward the achievement of the Church’s vision in collaboration with the Church Elders Council to help cultivate a healthy, Christ-centered church culture marked by spiritual maturity, unity, servant leadership and community engagement.
  • to coordinate, direct and manage ministry; and
  • to lead and equip the members of the congregation to assist in the work of ministry
  • to reach our neighbourhood and beyond for Jesus.
  1. The Minister is expected to set a high level of prayer, ethics, creativity, and concern for the development of spiritual formation and biblical discipleship and will be responsible with the Church Elders Council’s support for the implementation of ministries within prescribed budget, ethical, and theological boundaries.
  2. To take primary responsibility to teach and preach the Word of God from sound biblical analysis and theological application as the basis for Christian life and church function and be dependent on the Holy Spirit’s guidance in worship, prayer, and direction for ministry.
  3. To oversee the Pastoral Care Team and be available to provide pastoral care as required, in conjunction with the help of other professionals for counselling, psychological, and medical issues, as required.
  4. The minister will oversee the function of the various small groups within the church and be responsible for the training of their leaders and the quality of the content shared in each group.
  5. Attend the monthly Open Door Community Care management team meetings as part of the management team and offer administrative assistance as required. Connect with the volunteers in the Op Shops and Food Pantry regularly, in ways that are convenient and effective. Build relationships in all outreaches seeking opportunities to speak into the lives of the volunteers, customers, and clients as situations arise and assist with welfare.
  6. Attend the monthly Elders meeting and work in partnership with Church Elders Council to adhere to and ensure healthy governance.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of responsibilities relating to finance, compliance issues, Occupational Health & Safety, Child Safety and Safe Churches.
  8. In collaboration with the Church Elders Council the Minister may create ministries, select staff, and determine the means by which priorities will be addressed in all church matters, including such ministry areas as children’s, youth, music, and community engagement.
  9. To prepare for and officiate at baptisms, weddings and funerals as required.
  10. To be respectful of the differing denominational requirements between Churches of Christ Vic/Tas and Uniting Church in Australia in relation to Communion and Baptismal formulas as per Open Door Community Church’s policy document.
  11. To be developing open relationships with the leaders of the other local churches in our region.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A person of honesty and integrity, with a deep, mature faith who can work with people of all ages and be a team player. Someone who will work well and collaborate with the Elders and volunteers.
  • Theological Training appropriate for pastoral ministry – Degree in Theology / Ministry is desirable and Endorsement /Accreditation.
  • Commitment to ChurchSafe ministry practices.
  • A National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
  • This position is open to Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents ONLY.
