Prison Network’s Helen Walker Awarded Order of Australia

It is with great pleasure that we announce the distinguished recognition of Helen Walker, who has been awarded the Order of Australia in acknowledgment of her exceptional service to women.

Helen first walked through the doors of Pentridge Prison when she was 19 to show love and kindness to women in custody. That was 41 years ago. Over this time, she has been an invaluable member of the Prison Network team and has dedicated a significant part of her life in support of women in and beyond prison.

Her extensive involvement as a volunteer spans across our in-prison and post release programs, fundraising committees, and a substantial eight-year tenure as a dedicated member of the Board. She even shaved off her hair to raise much needed funds!

Helen served as the Finance Officer from 2017 to 2021, demonstrating incredible dedication and adaptability. Helen has always been prepared to step in and fill the gaps to support the vision and mission of Prison Network.

Over the past few years Helen has focused on post release support as a member of our Post Release Volunteer Team, walking the journey with women who have the challenging task of rebuilding their lives. She continues to be a valued and much-loved member of our team.

This well-deserved recognition of the Order of Australia is a testament to Helen’s outstanding contribution. We extend our heartfelt congratulations, acknowledging her pivotal role in enriching the mission of Prison Network, and the women we serve.

Helen, from all of us at Prison Network, a huge congratulations and thank you for your unwavering commitment. We are so very fortunate to count you as one of our own.
